The “Auto Volume” function is waaaay more satisfying than it has any right to be.
Yeah, I know it’s old news, it’s old tech, but there’s something incredibly awesome about having the music swell with the V8 noises, especially on extended accelerations.
This has been your biannual dose of “really simple shit that amuses/pleases me”. You may now resume your regularly scheduled programming.

Mrs. D’s car has “speed compen sated volume” not even sure what it does, it’s a hybrid and it doesn’t get loud ever.

That’s neat, I’ve never even heard of that

H ad that on my Mazda 3 - it seemed to be speed related on that car. I’d get on the freeway and go, “why is the radio so loud? oh yeah ...”

I never used it until the last year or so because I didn’t think it did anything.
Turns out I had the total wrong idea about what it was supposed to do, and I LOVE IT

Not sure how this works, just that it does. And the truck’s loud enough that it doesn’t ever hit that point for me.
If it’s speed based, I think it would probably have been overcompensating with a stock exhaust... good thing I never used it...

Newer GM vehicles have another nice feature that I like. If your phone is paired to the system, the fan speed for the HVAC will automatically go to a lower setting when you make or receive calls.
Little things.

That's fantastic.

It is a good feature but I always thought it was pretty standard. I’ve had it on every car I’ve had that wasn’t 30 years old, from my ‘04 Mazda - ‘09 BMW - ‘15 VW to ‘17 Subaru, and in each of those the rate at which the volume ramps up with speed has been adjustable. I usually have it fully on, except in the BMW where I have it set somewhere in the middle.

Question for YOU, sir.
Is this fella a faker? I sure as heck don't remember there being a Colorado SS and it was on rather non-SS wheels, but I'll defer to an actual Colorado owner.

Melted playschool design 90's GM dashboard controls. I never liked them as they looked toy like to me. If I am paying $30,000 for a car, I want it to have a serious dashboard, not something designed to appeal to a toddler......

My Cardo does this when I ride. I can hear it ramp the volume up and down around 50kph/ 30mph.
M y 08 2500 did as well.

Oddly enough I just figured this one out. My 2015 Suburban that I sold didn’t have this feature, but the 2015 that I bought to get 4WD does. I assume it must be a newer build date, since they are both LTZ trim (highest trim at the time).

First time I ever saw it was on a Pontiac Aztec.

Y eah, I know it’s old news, it’s old tech
Still fantastic.
FWIW, this truck is essentially unchanged since ‘04, and I doubt it there were many changes in the radio equipment for years before that...

Neither of those badges are genuine. There was no Colorado SS, where that badge is there should be a small bowtie and “COLORADO”. On the other side, there should be no badge at all—the V8 badges on these were up on the front fenders.
On the other hand, the V8 badge does look like the right one, even if it’s in the wrong place. So it’s possible that they *DO* have a V8 Colorado and just monkeyed with the badges to show off more efficiently. But based on how rare these things are,
If it *does* have a V8, my guess is
they swapped it in themselves. In which case, respect, but PLEASE remove the SS badge.
M y guess is:
- I t’s just a normal C olorado LT.
- The badge came off an Envoy or Trailblazer, which used the same V8 badge and are much more common.

shrug emoji. Don’t particularly care, the function it controls is good.

My Dad's Chevy Venture has this feature too. Speed goes up volume goes with it. Works real nice.
